Although sustainability on the Iberian Peninsula is still not widely embraced, the Senior Open de Portugal at the Belas Clube de Campo showcased many sustainable innovations. From the 29th of September until the 1st of October, the Belas Clube de Campo was the international platform for a sustainable golf event. A recycling program, water management, sustainability in the entire supply chain and strong local community involvement were strong proof points for the first sustainable golf event in Portugal and Spain.

Improved quality, better play, greater future
Golfclub München Eichenried, home of the BMW International Open in 2011, showcased some interesting sustainable initiatives. Last year, the golf course achieved silver certification in the German 'Golf & Natur' program. Golf courses are increasingly working on environmental issues such as water management and biodiversity. The largest golf event in Germany started to become more aware of its environmental impact and the golf course is now one of the 100 golf courses in Germany that are participating in the 'Golf & Natur' initiative.
